TASSEN – BORN IN GERMANY,
AT HOME IN 60 COUNTRIES WORLDWIDE!

HOW OUR 3D ANIMATION BUSINESS LED TO THE BIRTH OF TASSEN

1998

It all started with a passion for computer-animated characters of three ambitious company founders Timm Osterhold, Marc Eckart and Max Zimmermann. Looking to bring a piece of Silicon Valley to Germany’s Rhine-Main Area with their new start-up they called FIFTYEIGHT 3D.

2000

Hitting the ground running, FIFTYEIGHT 3D quickly makes a name for itself in the international 3D-animations scene. Commercial milestones include Procter and Gamble’s time-honored brand mascot Mr. Clean next to advertisement work for MTV Europe, Sony Music, and Nintendo. International awards followed.

2004

FIFTYEIGHT 3D created an animated video clip sent out as a holiday greetings email to clients, friends, and family. The main stars of the video clip were two cheeky coffee cups with lively facial expressions, constantly squabbling and getting on each other’s case. Not quite the holiday spirit, but nevertheless, the clip strikes a nerve and goes viral, as it is re-sent and forwarded thousands of times that Holiday season.

2005

One day someone threw out the idea to make real coffee cups, just like the ones in the videos. This was as the first sight a great idea, but no one knew how to make things from porcelain?

2009

The partners finally managed to find a small porcelain workshop in Southern Germany and the first run of TASSEN products is released. It’s a small single-colored bowl at a capacity of 500ml with several different faces. The initial response among customers is encouraging.

2010

Taking TASSEN to the next level. The company started to develop a large-scale serial production at affordable rates but in line with their high quality standards.

2019

After millions of mugs later, all products of TASSEN are still manufactured in Germany and found lovers in 60 countries worldwide – more details? To enjoy the full story and our products click here ...
